Mathematics, CPA and POA Teachers

Department Goal(s)

To develop students’ numeracy skills through logical reasoning, communicating and applications of concepts in the real life and to achieve our department vision of every student will excel and appreciate Mathematics.

Department Key Programmes

• To provide various platform and opportunities for students to develop the love for Mathematics, authentic learning experiences and games are introduced at the lower secondary level.

• Interdisciplinary projects are introduced to help students related to the learning of Mathematics alongside other subjects.

• Educational platform such as Geogebra and Desmos are infused in the curriculum to help students with visualisation of geometrical properties.

Awards/Achievements

• Coding Programme and National Digital Explorer (NDE):

  • All sec 1 students went through the 10-h coding programme during math curriculum time. Selected students from Sec 1 and Sec 2 G3 learned online independently before the NDE competition and 2 students qualified for the National round.

• Singapore and Asian School Math Olympiad (SASMO):

  • Our teachers trained G3 students from Sec 1 to 3. This competition allowed them to learn independently and stretch their thinking skills in non-routine questions. We have clinched 1 Gold Award by Khoo Kang Zhe, Eugene (3 Integrity), 4 Silver Awards, 9 Bronze Awards and 8 Honorable Mentions.

• NIE Mathematics Challenge for Sec 1 and 2:

  • This is online Math quiz that is closely aligned to the current secondary Mathematics syllabus. The two High Distinction awardees are Fong Sze Yang (1 Resilience) and Adora Koh Yu Shaan (2 Resilience) and 18 distinction awards.

• Singapore International Mathematical and Computational Challenge (SIMC):

  • Sec 3 team uses AI tools on machine learning to develop forecast model based on past results of students’ examinations and presented the findings on poster during Educators’ Learning festival.

• Math Challenge at Ngee Ann Polytechnic:

  • Aims to relate Mathematics and engineering to real life situation via exciting games, the strong teamwork and quick-thinking of our Sec 4E students won Gold Award, Sliver Award for Omega Escape and Overall 1st runner-up award.

CPA

• Animation and Game Making (AGM) Competition 2024

Selected students developed their animations and games based on the theme of “Intergenerational Harmony” using Scratch programming software in this competition organised by Computer Education Unit at the Curriculum Planning and Development Division (CPDD).
