Key Programmes

Instrument Fundamentals

Students build core skills in guitar, keyboard, and cajon through structured lessons and performances.

Music Technology & Arrangement

Students engage with playing, recording, digital music creation, and arrangement using Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) - professional software used for music production and recording.

Industry-Relevant Enrichment

Students gain real-world experience with music professionals through masterclasses and production projects.

Building Strong Instrumental Foundations

In Lower Secondary, students acquire playing skills in guitar, keyboard, and cajon through structured, performance-based lessons. They showcase these skills in school performances, which enable them to build confidence, demonstrate learning, and develop personal expression.

Towards Real-World Music Making

At Secondary Two, students participate in a specially curated programme co-developed by YSS Music teachers and industry professionals under the National Arts Council (NAC) Artist-In-School Scheme (AISS). Through hands-on projects in music arrangement and recording, students gain insight into contemporary music practices and the collaborative nature of music production.

Recent Highlights

Secondary 2 Cohort Cover (2025 Pilot)

In 2025, the Secondary Two cohort participated in our pilot Cohort Cover Project, working under the mentorship of recording artist James Lye in our very own Recording Studio.

Furthering Curiosity — Extra-Curricular Workshops

Beyond the regular curriculum, passionate learners are given opportunities to deepen their learning through masterclasses and workshops with guest musicians from the industry. These sessions develop higher-order musical skills while broadening students’ understanding of the arts sector.

Student Achievements

Our students’ talent and creativity have been recognised on national platforms such as the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Youth Station Project.

Most recently in 2025, Ahmad Tirmidzi (4IN) premiered his original song “Goodbye To This Place” at SCAPE Ground Theatre. His work will also be featured at the Principals’ Appointment & Appreciation Ceremony — a proud reflection of our students’ real-world success.
